Tuina is Chinese massage and is a form of manipulative therapy. This is not be confused with chiropractic work; we do not manipulate the bones. Tuina massage uses techniques such as pushing, grasping, shaking, rolling and kneading. It can be firm or soft and also involves stretching the body.
Tuina can be practiced on anyone, and is particularly effective when treating the elderly or infants and children. It can be a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with other modalities such as acupuncture and cupping. In China, the hospitals have wards dedicated to just Tuina therapy for adults and for pediatrics. Tuina therapy is commonly a part of a doctor’s prescription.
